Because we'll need a lot of leaves, I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4x5.25" and die cut the leaves from there. This way, I may use it as extra layer on my card. I prefer to pop the leaves out of the die using a book binding awl. If you don't have one, you can use the end of a metal paper clip; simply unfold it. When cutting delicate dies like this one, I like to use a metal shim in my die cut "sandwich" — I simply insert it under the cutting plate. If you don't have a metal shim, a sheet or two of cardboard will suffice!

Because I use a lot of clear embossing powder, I keep it in a container. I also use tweezers to take my die cuts out of the powder and hold them in place while heat embossing so they don't move about my desk. You can do the same thing with patterned paper, and embossing adds strength to thinner papers as well.

One tip is to use ink that is near to the colour of your embossing powder. Alternatively, you might use coloured paper and VersaMark ink once more. You might also use embossing powder with sparkles. The possibilities are endless.

A die-cutting machine is a wise investment for a crafter. The dynamic capabilities of these machines, on the other hand, can open up a whole new universe of intriguing tactics, guaranteeing that you get your money's worth. You will also discover that different manufacturers' dies and embossing folders are compatible with different machines. Die-cutting is a lot of fun, and you'll rapidly become addicted; before long, your major difficulty will be finding a place to keep all of your dies!

Dry embossing with a die is the process of creating an impression in a piece of cardstock, similar to how an embossing folder works. You want the die to push into the cardstock without perforating it. This is accomplished by including an embossing mat in your die sandwich. The mat absorbs the pressure that would ordinarily cut through the cardstock, leaving only the die's impression. Once the impression is formed, such as with an embossing folder, you can use either the positive or negative side in your project. There are two types of embossing mats: black and tan. Both are silicone and are remarkably durable when used. To cut with Tonic Studios Dies , we usually insert a piece of paper and a die between two clear cutting plates and ensure that there is enough extra pressure supplied by adding or withdrawing spacers supplied with the machine.
